KODAK FACE OF THE NET - A
report
THE KODAK FACE OF THE NET, THE FIRST CONTEST OF ITS KIND
TO BE HELD ON THE NET IN INDIA, GOT underway in May
1998. Applications for participation were invited from girls resident in
Nagpur. The forms were made available through various outlets in the city.
Out of about 150 participants who responded, ten were selected by a panel
of experts from the city and the pictures of these girls were put on to
the site. Over the Next ten days (June 24 to July 4, 1998) surfers from
all over the world cast their votes for their favourite face. Centres
in the city functioned as on-line polling booths.
On July 5, at a simple ceremony at the Holiday Inn, Nagpur,
the results were announced and the winners crowned and awarded. Kaizeen
Buhariwala was crowned Kodak Face of the Net while Tina Agarwal and Vanshika
Bhatnagar were declared first and second runner-up respectively. Madhurani
Gokhale was awarded the Nagpur Queen title.
The prizes were as follows: Tiara from Gitanjali Gold
and Precious, Mumbai, Cameras from Kodak, Mobile Phone and SIM cards from
BPL Mobile, Holidays from Happy Home from JT Computer Software.
The contest received a tremendous response from both the
press and the people of Nagpur. And of course, netizens from all over. Over
a period of one month, over 20 reports about the contest appeared in the
local press. The number of visitors to Nagpurcity.com, too, registered a
phenomenal increase which continues even after the contest, for which our
thanks are due, to each one of our regular readers.
